Wadowice, the Pope's Home
The first mentions of this town appeared as early as 1325, and although it was a small settlement at that time, it quickly developed, being on the route of the central Galician road that was to connect Lviv with Vienna. Today, Wadowice is primarily known as the birthplace and upbringing place of Karol Wojtyła, or Saint John Paul II. This town has become one of the main tourist destinations for pilgrims from all over the world, thanks to the museum created in the Pope's Family Home, showcasing his memorabilia.
Tourist Trails
It is also worth mentioning that there are hiking trails available. Everyone can choose from four available options – the blue trail named after Czesław Panczakiewicz includes the route from Wadowice through the Czesław Panczakiewicz Pass, the PTTK shelter all the way to Leskowiec and Tarnawa Góra. The trail marked in black leads from Gorzeń Górny to Żar. The yellow color indicates a trip to Babice and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. The last, green trail will take tourists to Zator.
Historic Wadowice
In addition to the Family Home of John Paul II, it is also worth visiting the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the 18th century. Additionally, for those who enjoy historic sites, an excellent place will be the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Fathers and the Sanctuary of St. Joseph from 1899. Furthermore, it is worth paying attention to the House at Kościelna 4, which dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries! Access to it is facilitated by the fact that there is a museum inside, as well as a Tourist Information Center.
For those thirsty for beautiful landscapes, we recommend a trip to Leskowiec Mountain (922 m above sea level), from which there is a beautiful view of the nearby villages. The efforts of this trip will surely be rewarded by the famous cream cake, which can be purchased in every café.
